If you've ever taken even a remote interest in playing games online, you've probably already stumbled on to one of the big portal game sites. Although AOL Games now incorporates, it still exists as a separate site, so we count it here as one of our top 15. These are perhaps the four major game portals. We've numbered the sites to help you keep count, rather than in order of preference. But you'll never have to type in a credit card number-and you may just find a new way to enjoy your PC.

Other sites are legitimate but limited, with a small selection of boring games. Phishers, hackers, and spyware distributors are notorious for using the promise of free games to hook their victims. And you frequently don't have to pay to play on the Internet: Hundreds, if not thousands, of sites offer a veritable cornucopia of free games, from online versions of classic card and board games to cute casual puzzlers and TV-game-show style multiplayer pastimes. And that's why I like to call myself 'undefinable.There are few better ways to use time, a PC, and an Internet connection than by whiling away a few hours with online games. She had also learned a couple more web languages including Ruby (and Ruby on Rails) and Python. He asked her to talk about some of her projects, which at that point included website coding, creating videos inside of games using a popular programming tool Machinima, and writing a popular blog on Woozworld (a virtual gaming world for tweens and pre-teens). Banks was talked into it by her dad, who helps organize the conference.

She taught herself to code websites when she was nine by taking a course on W3schools and reading a book her dad gave her. Banks taught herself to code at age 9īanks says she started "getting into tech a long time ago" by firing up a blog when she was six years old (her mother helped her with the typing part). In a self-confident tone, she inspired the 4,000-strong crowd by telling them she wasn't going to be limited by how people label her.Īnd she encourged the audience to do the same.
